Principal Pheng is a member on the City’s Commission on Universal Pre-Kindergarten. The Commission is working to develop a plan for all Philadelphians to be able to afford and attend a high quality pre-k center without reducing existing education funds. The creation of the Commission on Universal Pre-Kindergarten was passed with more than 80% voter approval. By providing young children with a quality pre-k experience benefits include:
- Improves early literacy, language and math skills as children enter kindergarten
- Cuts special education placements
- Reduces grade repetition
- Increases high school graduation, college enrollment, employment opportunities and lifetime earning potentials
- High return on public investment: $7-$16 for every dollar invested
