FACTS will be issuing each student a Chromebook this year. We ask that students only use the FACTS issued device and not their own home device to make it easier for us to address any technical issues that may come up. We expect parents to be involved in ensuring that you child properly cares for this school device.
G SUITE & GOOGLE CLASSROOM
FACTS will be switching from Microsoft to G Suite products this year. Students will be given new email login information during tech pick-up. We will be using Google Classroom for student assignments instead of Plus Portals. Plus Portals will continue to be used as a place to check grades, report cards, IEPs, and attendance.
FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH
All FACTS students can receive free breakfast and free lunch from FACTS. We encourage you to participate!
At this time, the only pick-up location will be at FACTS. Government guidelines have changed. FACTS student can no longer go to other schools to pick up free meals. They must get the meals from FACTS.
Wednesdays (7:30am – 10:30am)
Thursdays (3:30pm – 6:30pm)
The first pick-up will be Wednesday, Sept. 9th!
Families will be given a full week of meals on the day they pick up. Lunches will be individually frozen meals. Breakfast will be cereal and/or cereal bars. Both will include milk.
During virtual learning, student school hours are: 8:00am – 3:00pm
These hours include breakfast/logging on (8-8:30am), Morning Meeting (MM), community-building, social-emotional learning (SEL), What I Need (WIN), content courses, specials, and breaks.
Content courses: 10-15 minutes of direct instruction, plus independent work time in small group breakout rooms with a teacher.
*We are reassessing schedules for students in lower grades. More details soon.
Students must be ready for Morning Meeting at 8:30am. Attendance will be taken everyday during Morning Meeting.
WIN (WHAT I NEED)
FACTS will have a scheduled block of time for students to receive additional academic support from teachers. These sessions are mandatory.
SERVICES FOR SPECIAL ED & ENGLISH LEARNERS
FACTS will continue to provide services to students with IEPs and English Learners. This may look different in the virtual setting.
AT-HOME LEARNING RECOMMENDATIONS
We strongly recommend families set up an undisturbed space in the home for their child to fully engage in virtual learning. The following are some tips to set your child up for virtual success:
- Keep the laptop on a desk or table
- Have the camera facing a wall (instead of full view of room)
- Have your child wear school appropriate clothing (ie – Dress Down Day guidelines)
- Keep the video on as much as possible
- Have all learning materials close by
- Decorate the space to inspire learning
- Post learning goals
- Headsets help to drown out background noise (optional)
ACCESS CENTERS FOR K-8 STUDENTS
The City of Philadelphia is providing Access Centers to serve students while fully-digital learning is in place. Registration is required with priority given to children of caregivers who need to work outside the home and cannot provide or afford other childcare solutions. Limited site capacity.
2020-2021 BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT (virtual)!

Grades 5-8 and Stars:
Wednesday, Sept. 23rd, 5:45 – 7pm

DECISION TO GO ALL VIRTUAL
FACTS is using 3 criteria to determine whether to open school all virtually or with a hybrid model (1 in-person day/wk). If any one of the following criteria are true, FACTS remains all-virtual:
- The City of Philadelphia COVID-19 website rates the risk of transmission as high
- Philadelphia is still requiring significant mitigation
- The rate of positive tests exceeds 5% over a 14-day rolling average
On August 7th, since #1 still indicated the risk of transmission as HIGH, we decided to open school all virtual. On November 16th (beginning of 2nd marking period), FACTS will reassess the COVID-19 situation in Philadelphia.
